Most books have this at 4.5 which I also don’t mind but I never mind drinking juice and I like having the added push opportunity. For those unfamiliar, this bet is on MGM under “Totals” and then “1st 5 Innings Totals”. I think this overall game line of 8.5 is too low but I’ll just focus on these two guys. For those curious, I would still play at 4.5 for 1 unit if you could get odds that are -130 or better. Let's get into why I like this play.

Jose Quintana on the road is asking for trouble. The 33-year-old lefty this year holds a 4.44 away ERA in five starts and has already gotten popped for 3 runs in 4 innings against this same Washington team. Last year Quintana was even worse on the road posting a 9.93 ERA. Washington hits lefties extremely well at a .256 batting average. Quintana has allowed at least 2 runs in his last 7 starts in the first 5 innings, all we need is 2 from both for the push and a split of 2 and 3 for the win. Quintana isn’t good, he has struggled against Washington specifically and is worse on the road. I expect some early runs out of Washington.

On the other side of the bump, we have none other than Patrick Corbin. This guy is in the “Dallas Keuchel Fade Hall Of Fame”. Corbin has been awful allowing 2+ runs in 14/15 games and hoisting a brutal 6.60 ERA. Pittsburgh isn’t the best hitting team hitting just over .220 against lefties but if there is ever one they should be able to hit then it’s this guy. Corbin has been a walking fade all year and I see no signs of things stopping now. Corbin allowed 2 runs in 5 innings last time against Pittsburgh this season which is probably his second-best start of the year. That being his second-best start on the year speaks volumes as to how brutal this guy has been. In a perfect world, we want one guy to allow 3 and the other to allow 2, Corbin has allowed 3+ runs in 7 of his last 8 games.
